The Triumphal Entry Luke 19:28-40 --- Glory & Hidden Danger

Here was Jesus widely celebrated and praised by the common people. But there was a group of people, the Pharisees who were very upset to see all that. They plotted to kill him a few days later.

We need to learn that amid glory, there is danger lurking. We need to always prepare for contingency.
We do all we can and trust God to take care of us, all the things that are beyond our control or influence.

Lessons:

  • Always plan first and be ready for any contingency.
    • How did Jesus know in advance of the availability of the colt and the questions that would be asked? Listen to the Holy Spirit.
  • When there are cheers for you, there will be others who will be against you.
  • The Triumphal Entry is to fulfill a prophecy ---
    • Zechariah 9:9: "Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." (NIV)
  • The symbolism of the colt:
    • Jesus coming on a colt, with cloaks as saddle, rather than a warhorse, emphasizes a message of peace. The 2nd coming will see Jesus riding on a warhorse.
  • Faith of the disciples:
    • They follow Jesus' instructions; They praise their 'king', Messiah.
  • Praise and worship:
    • The disciples and the crowds praise God for Jesus' miracles and proclaim him as king.
