The Death of Jesus Luke 23:44-56 ---- Mission Accomplished

One of the important aspects of life is how we die. What legacies do we leave behind? Did we accomplish our calling from God? Are we contented to leave this life and embrace the new life with God? Does our death matter to anyone?

Let's look at the death of Jesus and learn the lessons of life. Know that God is in charge and will help you to live and die well. Trust God.

Lessons:

  • Mission accomplished
    • Jesus accomplished His mission given by the Father, despite the sufferings, to die on the cross to pay for the sins of men so that men may be reconciled with God.
    • May we also accomplish our God-given calling and mission.
    • Philippians 1:6: "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
  • Trust in God:
    • Even facing death, Jesus trusts in God by saying "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" (v. 46). This teaches us to rely on God's will even in difficult times.
  • Truth Prevails:
    • Injustice is not covered up by the evil.
      • Heaven spoke up for Jesus - The Darkness from noon-3pm to testify of Jesus' special standing.
      • His innocence was not buried by the religious leader's cunning scheming. There were many who thought He was innocent.
  • Transformation Through Sacrifice:
    • Jesus' death has the power to change hearts such as the mockers of Jesus.
  • The boldness of Joseph of Arimathea
    • He made a stand for righteousness and for Jesus thought outvoted.
    • He dared to ask for and gave Jesus a good burial.
  • The love and concerns are shown in follow-up actions
    • The women followed to find out where Jesus' body was and prepared the spices and ointments for Him.
